What You Missed at the March Dine With a Doc Event

Every third Tuesday of the month, Senior Education Ministries, Inc. hosts the Dine with a Doc program. This event is an opportunity for area senior citizens to engage in an open discussion about their health—while also enjoying free lunch! Markwell Funeral Home sponsors these monthly events, and the most recent one took place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21 at the Casey Senior Social Center on SW 2nd Street.

Nearly 40 people turned out for this particular Dine with a Doc program, one of the largest crowds of the series. Registered nurse Nancy Sehy was this month’s speaker and she talked about ways for seniors to improve their quality of life. Sehy has been working in hospice for more than 16 years. After she spoke, she opened it up to questions from the audience. Markwell Funeral Home’s Jay Markwell and Dee Partlow were both in attendance.

For lunch, sponsored by Markwell Funeral Home, the following was served: chicken pasta bake, green beans, and pineapple lush.

Following lunch, Jay Markwell spoke on behalf of the funeral home and encouraged everyone to write down their final wishes, to “Have the Talk of a Lifetime” with their loved ones. The Markwell Funeral Home staff is happy to meet with anyone at any time to discuss pre-planning options.

In addition to the speakers, several infomercials were presented by Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Lincolnland Hospice, Heritage Woods of Charleston, IL, Whispering Oaks of Greenup, IL, Villas of Holly Brook of Charleston, IL, Carle Hospice and Home Care of Mattoon, IL, and Addis Home Care and Community Care Systems.

After the program and infomercials, 12 door prizes were given away from all the businesses in attendance, including Markwell Funeral Home. The winners were Rosemary Smith, Larry Cutright, Kay Hutchings, Carrol Wilson, Liz Redman, June McCullough, David King, Sharon Roberts, Jim Benton, Betty Goodwin, Julie Wilson, and Bonnie McCash.

On behalf of Senior Education Ministries, Markwell Funeral Home would like to thank everyone who came out for this March Dine with a Doc program. We’ll see you in April for the next one!
