Markwell Veterans Day Events Had a Great Turnout!

This past Veterans Day, Markwell Funeral Home recognized the holiday with two special events on Friday, November 11 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The first Veterans Day event took place at the Casey VFW located at 300 South Central Avenue. Veterans and guests were invited to a free fish and shrimp dinner which also included baked beans, coleslaw, tea and lemonade. The Casey VFW Men’s and Women’s Auxiliary along with the Casey VFW members cooked the food and served it to approximately 175 people in attendance. It was a great turnout, and so wonderful to see so many veterans, families, and friends together!

The second Veterans Day event, sponsored by Markwell’s Martinsville location, Greenwell Funeral Home, was also a great success and took place at the American Legion in Martinsville, located at 122 West Cumberland Street. Nearly 80 people were in attendance for this event, including veterans, widows or widowers of veterans, and guests.

This is the second year in a row that Markwell Funeral Home and Greenwell Funeral Home sponsored a Veterans Day event. In 2015, both local funeral homes sponsored a similar appreciation dinner for veterans at the Casey VFW, which was catered by Niemerg’s Steakhouse of Effingham. At last year’s event, nearly 115 people turned out for the dinner. It was wonderful to see attendance grow to 175 this year.

Markwell Funeral Home and Greenwell Funeral Home thank everyone who came out for these Veterans Day dinners and also give thanks to veterans for their service to our country.
