Did you know that Casey, Illinois has many Guinness Book of World Record achievements?
There’s the World’s Largest Wind Chime, the World’s Largest Golf Tee, the World’s Largest Knitting Needle and Crochet Hook, the World’s Largest Pitchfork, the World’s Largest Wooden Clogs, the World’s Largest Rocking Chair, and the World’s Largest Mailbox.
Many tourists are coming to Casey and need a way to get around the lovely city and see all of the large-and-in-charge features. For years, Markwell Funeral Home in Casey has advertised on a trolley car, and this year, from Summer to Fall (weather permitting), the local funeral home will be sponsoring it every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will be a great way for visitors to get around the city and see what the town has to offer. In addition to the sponsorship, Markwell will also be providing a cooler of water on board the trolley as a refreshment.
Lee Markwell, Jay Markwell’s father and former owner of Markwell Funeral Home, was the first rider on the Saturday trolley, along with Archie and Judy Gowin (trolley owners and operators). On the first trolley day, there were approximately 40 riders, which was a great turnout.
With Casey becoming more of a tourist attraction, it’s getting more congested downtown, and the trolley is a fun way to escort tourists and non-tourists alike around town. For more information or to learn how to get involved with the group, visit http://www.bigthingssmalltown.com/.
Take a ride this Saturday and every Saturday until Labor Day weekend and think of Markwell.
