Just as Markwell Funeral Home encourages everyone to honor Memorial Day in recognition of those who’ve lost their lives serving our country, the local funeral home also wants to recognize Veterans Day with two special events on Friday, November 11 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
One veteran’s event will take place from 6 – 8 pm at the Casey VFW located at 300 South Central Avenue. All area veterans and a guest are invited to this free fish and shrimp dinner which will also include baked beans, coleslaw, tea, and lemonade. Other drinks will be available for purchase at the VFW. Veterans need not RSVP for this event; they can just show up!
The other veteran’s event will take place at the American Legion in Martinsville, with a free appreciation dinner of pulled pork, Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, tea and dessert. Sponsored by Markwell Funeral Home and Greenwell Funeral Home, this event is open to all Martinsville American Legion members, any veteran, widows and widowers of veterans, and their guest. The dinner, catered by Miss Barlow’s Café, will be at held at 6 p.m. at the Martinsville Twp. Community Center, 122 W. Cumberland St., Martinsville, IL.
Last year, Markwell Funeral Home and Greenwell Funeral Home sponsored a similar veteran’s appreciation dinner at the Casey VFW. It was catered by Niemerg’s Steakhouse of Effingham, and nearly 115 people turned out for the dinner. Markwell also sponsored a veteran’s luncheon at the VFW on the Fourth of July. These community events are wonderful ways to celebrate these veterans’ achievements and services and to observe these holidays.
Markwell Funeral Home hopes to see lots of veterans, spouses, and friends of veterans at these two events on Friday, November 11 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
