In addition to helping patrons that come through the door every day (the light at our entrance has a special meaning), Markwell Funeral Home is committed to helping the community in a variety of ways, whether it’s through sponsoring the Dine with a Doc program or honoring veterans at a Fourth of July event.
Recently, Markwell donated to the Westfield Homecoming Festival, which took place in Westfield Park Friday August 15 through Sunday August 17. The event included live music, food vendors, family-friendly games, a parade, and many other activities.
The festival is sponsored by the Westfield Lions Club and kicked off on Friday with chicken and fish dinner followed by homemade ice cream, pie, and cake for dessert. After dinner and dessert, there was a baby contest, the Little Miss Westfield Queen Pageant, and a teen dance from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
On Saturday, the morning started with a biscuit and gravy breakfast and then was accompanied by the parade, which was led by Les Dallas, a 30-year member of the Lions Club who served as the grand marshal. After the parade was a car/truck/tractor/motorcycle show, a concert, and also a firefighter water balloon fight, among other festivities.
Sunday included combined church gatherings, softball and community games, and of course, more food.
Our local funeral home was honored to support this event and be a part of its success. Next year, Markwell plans on helping out again, only this time sponsoring one of the entertainment bands.
