Markwell is Going Pink This Month!

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, you’re likely to see pink everywhere. It’s the color that signifies the fight against breast cancer, representing those who’ve lost their lives to the disease and those who are still fighting the good fight.

Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women in the United States over the course of their lifetime and affects women more than any other cancer, second to lung cancer.

Since Breast Cancer Awareness Month is October, Markwell Funeral Home wanted to do something extra special to show its support all month long.

During the month of October, Markwell staff members will be wearing pink, in the form of pink ties and scarves. But in addition to wearing this color to raise awareness, the Casey funeral home wanted to do a little more. Markwell was proud to be a sponsor for Team Tucker at the 3rd Annual Swing for a Cure, a double elimination softball tournament that raised money for cancer research. Held on October 2, it was a great fundraising event with raffles, food, and auction items for attendees to enjoy.

Cancer is a cause that’s close to our hearts and seems to affect everyone in some way. This past summer, Markwell Funeral Home donated $250 to Relay for Life in Clark County, after learning that the chapter hadn’t reached its monetary goal of $43,500. Relay for Life is an annual event that raises much-needed funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society.

Markwell Funeral Home hopes that this month-long campaign reminds people to get regular checkups and to be vigilant about their health. Some ways of prevention include maintaining a healthy weight, performing monthly breast self-exams, and getting annual mammograms after the age of 40.
