Prom season typically takes place in the spring season for many high schools across the country, but recently Markwell & Son Funeral Home in Casey, IL got to be a part of a special prom event that took place in middle of summer.
On Saturday, July 11, the Senior Citizen Prom was held at Greenup Municipal Building in Greenup, IL, sponsored by the Casey Senior Social Center, Heartland Manor, and Casey Health Care Center. It was a great event to bring the community together and for senior citizens to engage with each other.
Doors opened at 4, which acted as a kind of social hour, with registration and seating taking place as the senior citizens socialized. Dinner was served at 5, catered by Martin’s IGA Catering Service in Effingham. With the theme of “This Magic Moment,” the prom’s big event came from 6 to 6:30, when the coronation of prom king and queen commenced, with crowning conducted by the 2014 Cumberland County Fair Queen, Bailey Banning.
Following the coronation, the prom-goers kicked up their heels to the music of The Gene Trimble Band, which Markwell Funeral Homes sponsored for the event. The music ran from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and they played mostly big band music, which was fun for the attendees.
Markwell’s own Bill Williams was in attendance and remarked how much people enjoyed themselves.
“There was a wonderful turnout,” Williams said, “with good food and great entertainment. Everyone had a good time!”
Markwell Funeral Home was honored to be a part of this event for the senior citizen community.
