Markwell Funeral Home Co-sponsors “Hospice to Funeral Connection – Building the Bridge” Seminar

Compassion, comfort and providing counsel during crisis – these are all qualities embodied by hospice and palliative care workers and funeral directors. These care providers, crucial to so many families at what is often the most difficult time of their lives, can and should work together to deliver a seamless continuum of services for the infirm and their families as they make the transition from ‘end of life’ care to the celebration of one’s life.

Markwell Funeral Home is proudly co-sponsoring a seminar next month with neighboring Adams Funeral Chapel, the “Hospice to Funeral Connection – Building the Bridge.” The full-day seminar will be hosted at the Thelma Keller Center in Effingham, IL on March 7. Offered through the Illinois Funeral Directors Association (IFDA), this seminar is designed to provide a meaningful opportunity for hospice workers and funeral service providers to come together and create a dialogue to gain a better perspective of our respective roles and relationships with the people that we collectively serve.

The seminar is intended to provide a forum for hospice and palliative care workers and funeral professionals to discuss how best to make the transition from hospice to funeral as natural and effortless as possible for families. Discussion topics will include clarifying the role of care providers in a family’s day-to-day life, preparing patients and their families for death, and also an intentional conversation about the importance of pre-planning and documenting one’s wishes, while they are of sound mind.

Registration for the seminar, which takes place from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM on March 7, can be completed by February 24, and is open to the public.  Lunch will be provided and the seminar will conclude with an open discussion with the professionals on the panel. Online registration can be completed here or here.
