In addition to Markwell’s funeral home services, we also like to be in touch with the local community. Most recently, Markwell’s funeral director intern Millie Malone was involved in a local Chamber of Commerce event. On April 4th, an Easter in the Park event for kids ages 1 to 10 took place at Fairview Park in Casey, IL. It was a successful event, with more than 200 children signing up for basket and bike raffles.
Naturally, with it being the Easter season, the event involved an Easter Egg Hunt, which was free to the community and something the children really enjoyed. Another big part of the event was kids being able to meet the Easter Bunny and get their photo taken with him. The families starting filling in around 9:45 a.m., with kids eager to see Mr. Bunny themselves.
In order to do the bike giveaway, children were divided into four age groupings (1–2, 3–5, 6–8, and 9–10), with one bike being raffled to a child from each group. The best part is that everyone went home with something, even if they didn’t win the bike, since there was candy or $1 coins in some of the Easter eggs.
But just because the event was geared toward the kids didn’t mean adults couldn’t get in on the fun. An adult Easter basket was raffled off, with items from local businesses, including salon shampoo and conditioner, gift certificates, company hats and shirts, Markwell Funeral Home pens and coffee mugs, as well as items from Preferred Bank.
Overall, the event gave away 22 baskets that were donated by local churches and other businesses. It was a really nice day and nice way to celebrate the season.
