On every third Tuesday of every month, Senior Education Ministries, Inc. holds the Dine with a Doc program, which encourages local seniors to start a discussion about their health while dining over complimentary lunch. The most recent one was held at the Casey Senior Social Center on SW 2nd Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2016.
At the most recent Dine with a Doc event, foot doctor Dr. Joseph Borreggine DPM from the Charleston/Mattoon area spoke to the group about the importance of foot care.
Thirty senior citizens came out for this Dine with a Doc event. Lunch was free to the local senior citizens, courtesy of Markwell Funeral Home, and included chicken salad sandwiches, potato salad, clementines, and Reese’s Peanut Butter cookies. Beverages included tea, lemonade, and water to drink. The meal was actually served by Markwell staff members.
Markwell’s preneed consultant Sandi Huelskamp spoke about the reasons why preneed is so important, and she also gave out a survey asking questions about funerals, in addition to pamphlets about preneed services and veterans benefits. Two winners who participated in the survey won a $20 IGA gift card: Rose Peterson and June McCullough. Rose Peterson also was the winner of the Markwell Funeral Home cup with a $10 McDonald’s gift card, Community Care System representative Christina Dagenais also brought an adult coloring book and coloring pencils for raffle, and the winner was Dorothy Stice.
This Dine with a Doc event was another success, and Markwell hopes to see everyone for the next one!
