We have extensive knowledge and experience with veteran procedures and benefits, which allows us to help families throughout the entire funeral service process. We understand how difficult grieving is and handling veteran benefits on your own can be quite cumbersome. That’s why we’re steadfastly committed to taking the burden off of your family and will assist with everything before and during the funeral. Let us put our experience to work for you.

Serving the Casey, Westfield, and Martinsville, IL community and its military members is an honor. We are ready to assist our beloved veterans and their families with the following:

  • Based on the families preference, we can arrange for a Military Honor Guard, trained in military drill ceremonies, to be present at the graveside service. This will also include an Honor Guard with Rifle Volley Salute, American Flag presentation, and a Bugler for Taps.
  • We are proud to use our first-hand knowledge of military affairs to assist in filing all of the necessary Veteran’s Affairs forms including, but not limited to, the application for a headstone and all burial benefits. At Markwell Funeral Home, we understand how tedious this process can be and will gladly handle these tasks for our grieving families.
  • In the event that you are unable locate your loved one’s military discharge papers, we will gladly assist you in requesting these from military personnel records, at both the state and local level. Know with confidence that we will go above and beyond to make sure that all of the necessary paper work is handled properly and promptly.
  • If your loved one wishes to be buried in a national cemetery, we will make all of the necessary arrangements with the National Cemetery Administration on their behalf. We will also handle all transportation needs and arrange for a Military Honor Guard at the national cemetery of your choice. Additionally, if the spouse of the deceased veteran also chooses to be buried there, we will assist in securing his or her plot as well.
