Building the Bridge Seminar a Great Success!

On Wednesday, March 7, Markwell Funeral Home co-sponsored the seminar “Hospice to Funeral Connection:
Building the Bridge”
with neighboring funeral home, Adams Funeral Chapel. The all-day seminar took place at the Thelma Keller Center in Effingham, IL and was offered through the Illinois Funeral Directors Association. The event provided funeral directors and hospice workers the opportunity to come together to open a dialogue on their respective roles. The event was a great success for the hospice and funeral home communities!

Nearly 129 people attended the event, among them funeral directors, hospice workers, and social workers. In fact, the turnout was so large that the convention center had to set up three additional tables to accommodate attendees. In addition to creating an opportunity for networking and collaboration, attendees also received continuing education credit.

The speakers during the event were very well received, and included discussion topics such as the role of care providers in family’s everyday life, preparing patients and families for death, and the importance of pre-planning and writing down one’s final wishes. Jay Markwell of Markwell Funeral Home was in attendance during this one-day event.

The event was catered by the convention center, with food and drinks provided to attendees. The delicious dessert options included three different types of cake to enjoy. The seminar concluded with an open discussion featuring professionals on a panel.

Overall, this event was a terrific success and Markwell Funeral Home is grateful to all who participated. Both funeral homes are hopeful that all attendees made a lot of connections and gained some insight into how their roles can work together within the hospice care and funeral home communities.
