On Saturday, July 16, 2016, Markwell Funeral Home sponsored entertainment at the 13th Annual Casey Senior Citizens Prom, held at the Casey Senior Social Center on 2 SW 2nd Street. The event took place from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and more than 150 people were in attendance. Tickets were $12 per person in advance and $13 at the door.
Bill Williams and Ruth Beasley were in attendance, representing Markwell and Greenwell funeral homes. Plus, Casey Township Supervisor Carl Vernon and his wife Debbie also took part in the festivities.
The theme this year was Boot Scootin’ Boogie Night. After registration and seating from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., dinner was served from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., provided by Martin’s IGA Catering Service of Effingham. The menu included fried chicken, barbecue pulled pork with a bun, mashed potato with gravy, chicken noodles, green beans, corn coleslaw, rolls with butter, tea, coffee, and lemonade. Homemade desserts were also provided.
From 6 to 6:30 p.m., the coronation of the prom king and queen took place; they were crowned by 2015 Clark County Fair Queen Courtney Fraker and 2015 Jr. Miss Briana Sanders. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., people danced the night away as Battle Creek Country band performed, sponsored by Markwell Funeral Home. Battle Creek Country has been performing in and around Illinois for more than 30 years, mixing old and new country styles with family-friendly flair. In addition to this musical entertainment, door prizes were also given out throughout the evening.
Markwell Funeral Home hopes everyone who attended the 13th Annual Casey Seniors Citizen Prom had a great time and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.
